Banned Screen Names | ||
|
I banned a number of screen names which were mulitiple names by one member.
Unfortunately, I banned them by IP number instead of by name. This resulted in a couple of other, totally unrelated members getting banned as well. This is because those people use AOL. That means that every computer AOL serves, is identified by AOL with an IP (Internet Protocol) number. Because AOL has such a large number of subscribers, it uses what are called "dynamic" IPs. That means that every time you connect to the internet through AOL, your computer is assigned a different IP #. In fact, AOL uses dynamic numbers that change as you surf. Unfortunately, this frequent shifting of AOL's IP #s means that you may sometimes have the same IP #, or a number that is at least in the same range, as another AOL user. If that user's IP # or IP range is banned, you may be banned, too. Later, you may go to the place where you got the banned message and find that you are not banned - because your IP # has changed. I would like to extend a sincere apology to those members who were inconvenienced by my attempt to rid the board of multiple screen names. Waterlog and, ironically enough, Kateyes were the most affected, I'm sorry. I'll be on the look out for others who may inadvertently get banned. |

A New Milestone... | ||
|
We have reached 500 members! Let's see if we can double this by this time next year!
Come on, Co-op City has approximately 58,000 in 35 high rise buildings and 210 townhouses. Not to mention the 3 shopping centers with plenty of business owners. Surely, amongst the previous and present-day Co-op City residents, we can find at least 1000 people who can join these boards. Let's all get the word out. And you lurkers out there, even if you don't talk, register. It takes 1 minute, and you don't have to give us any intimate details to do so.... Also, folks, you will notice EZ Board only allows 20 pages of thread topics per board. I will slowly go and start to "prune" the dead topics, or ones where one asks another to go to chat, etc. This will help preserve the "real" topics from getting dumped to make way for "new" empty topics. |

Re: Archives Forum | ||
|
As you may have noticed, there is a new Archives Forum. This is an attempt to keep from losing some of our older posts in the Reunion Forum. I found out, albeit a bit late, that EZ Board only allows for 20 pages of topics per forum. What happens if there are more is that the older ones start to get automatically dropped. In an effort so save even threads with only ONE post looking for someone, I have begun to move the older threads to the Archives Forum.
Happy Posting!! |

What's New On EZ BOARD........
|
Hey folks,
This is an update from Rob at EZ Board. There are some exciting things coming up for our boards and I thought I'd let Rob pass along the info. Cowboy Whats New March 13th, 2006 Hello Everyone, As we go into March I thought it would be a good idea to give you an update on what is happening on ezboard and tell you more about what we are doing to bring you the best message boards in the world.Your new message board engine, Yuku, is really coming along. It is still in beta but new features are being built every day and released every Tuesday. If you want to keep up to date on ezboard developments read this page. For Yuku youll want to go to labatt.yuku.com. So, let me answer some of your questions and talk about what we are doing to build the best message board What is happening at ezboard? Our main activities today are making sure that ezboard is secure and available for you at all times. We are also developing improvements to the replacement product for ezboard called Yuku. In the next few weeks you will have access to a new central account login that accesses both ezboard and Yuku with the same user ID and password you use today. From this central account page you will be able to see all your activities and profiles on ezboard and Yuku. Of course you will still be able to login to ezboard directly, but we think youll like the new central account dashboard better. You will get more information as the launch date approaches. What changes are we making to ezboard? Over the seven years since ezboard was created, there have been massive improvements in the technology and techniques used to build web sites. Some of the improvements are faster web page delivery, faster product development and de-bugging. You have not been able to take advantage of these improvements because of the current ezboard software platform. The ezboard platform is fast and can handle much more traffic than it does today. However, ezboards software is not flexible - meaning it is not feasible to add new features or to fix the bugs that remain in ezboard because changes to the software cause more problems than they solve. ezboard was built on an older technology that has reached its end of life for web site development. It is time to replace ezboards software platform so that we can bring you the new features you want while the improving security and stability of the service. It is not possible to attach new technology to ezboards software in a reliable way. This is why we are building a completely new message board platform called Yuku. What is Yuku? In over 33,000 ezboard user survey responses, hundreds of phone, IM and e-mail conversations and focus groups with people like you, you told us what you wanted in a community software platform. We listened to what you wanted and are building the best message board service we can and it is called Yuku. You might think of Yuku as the 100% user created community product and ezboard is your personal message board development team. What are the major differences between ezboard and Yuku? ezboard is message boards. Yuku is message boards, multiples profiles, avatar and image hosting and blogs - all in one place and available with one login. Every Yuku account has up to five profiles - because you dont want to be the same profile everywhere you go. Each Yuku Profile can create totally customizable Yuku Domains, think of them as a container for blogs and message boards, that contain as many message boards and forums as you want. Check out the FAQ pages and Yuku to see this in action. With Yuku you have the ezboard features you are used to and the new features that you have been asking for like: - many of the most popular javascript hacks on ezboard, like quick reply are now built in - access to private forums by groups/userlevels - more flexible security settings, such as allowing users to reply but not make new topics - automatic mark topic read - MBA enhancements: custom form to apply, custom accept and deny emails, MBA forums - easy category management area, drag and drop forums to other categories - enhanced member lists, including features such as the date the user joined, and date of their last post - all areas have appropriate stylesheet classes and IDs for greater customisation control - full profile customization for all users - friends list and privacy control over who can view various elements of your profile - library of personal photos for users. - photo albums and image hosting, including user galleries - enhanced signature features including multiple signatures per profile, preview signature - fully functional board and network search - view all time/date stamps in your own time zone - better security log with search and sort function - board backup features directly available to admins Some of these features are available now and some will be available soon. All of these features (and other ones) are in our development plan and will be available in the coming months. |

What's New On EZ BOARD........

You may have noticed a NEW board. The "Anything Goes" board.
This is so we can have a place to put topics that don't relate to those in the other boards. Little by little off topic posts will be moved to their respective boards. |

Only 0.016237314597970335675253708040593% On Boards!
|
It just dawned on me that out of 15,372 apartments, times 2.5 average occupants per apartment (15372*2.5=38430),that only 0.016237314597970335675253708040593% are members of these boards (624/38430=0.016237314597970335675253708040593). Only 624 members..... out of a CONSERVATIVE universe of 38430
:-( I don't have the time to extrapolate a more precise number of residents in Co-op City throughout it's time, which most certainly would certainly be a higher number..... but this is BAD ENOUGH.... Come on y'all, surely (don't call me shirley) there must be more people from Co-op City, past or present, who are online, and could potentially be members of these boards! I'm looking for a modest goal of 1000 members. Be sure to tell all your Co-op pals about the boards, and ask them to take a moment to stop by and see what all is going on. I guarantee they won't be able to stay only a few minutes though.... LOL! |

Just Purchased Another Year's Worth
|
I just renewed our Community Gold account for another year, which will cover us until July 2, 2008.
The cost was $70, which was covered by the $174 we had in our community chest. Our balance is now $104. Thanks to all who have generously contributed to the boards, so we can remain AD-FREE! No contributions are needed, although anyone who wishes to have a specialty name for the boards, can do so by contributing at least $5 toward the community chest. That minimum contribution also allows you to post as many messages as you would like, instead of the five that are allowed for non-contributors. Happy Summer Season y'all! Cowboy |

WE'RE JUST 11 AWAY | ||

From 700 members. Thanks for getting the word out to your fellow Co-op City pals. 1000 Board Members would be even better, and probably a WHOLE lot better than the Riverbay Board of Directors!
So, reach out and let anyone you know who's a former, or present, Co-op City resident know about these boards. This way more can share the memories. |
