This makes no sense to me as his success and vision for this country is different then mine. *I pray for his safety and for his family but don't really think I want him to succeed in his policies.* 24...Is that really how you feel? Please explain how his vision for this country is so much different than you view. I understand how you may feel on certain issues (ironically, my guess is that those issues might be based on morals or religion) but what exactly about President Obama's "vision" for this country is so divergent from your vision, that it would make a prayer for success not possible by you? As far as the aforementioned "morals or religion" part of my question, please let me explain......If you can't pray for President Obama to be successful because he is a supporter of Women's right to choose...I UNDERSTAND. If you believe that he is a supporter of Gay's right to marry...YOU ARE WRONG! He is not! If you can't pray for his success because he supports the Employee Free choice Act....I UNDERSTAND, but disagree...I'M UNION! Please help me see your position.. Peace and Love...Not hate! I no I am not 24.......... My objections are with his policies, which I believe to be harmful to our country. Just look at his first week..... If you believe that he is a supporter of Gay's right to marry...YOU ARE WRONG! He is not! On January 20, President Obama called for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. He also declared his intention to give multiple rights and privileges to homosexual couples. On January 22, he issued an order announcing his intention to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay within one year, but admits he has not figured out how to do that. President Bush had expressed a similar wish, but could find no nations willing to take responsibility for the detainees. On January 23, President Obama issued an order that authorizes tax dollars for abortions abroad. I am pro-life and view abortion as murder of unborn children. Abortion by design and implementation is incredibly racist. His vision is essentially socialist. Every solution is through the government. This is not how our country will prosper. His energy policy will cripple this country and is based on conservation rather than exploring new sources of oil. Wait till we are hit with carbon tax and cap and trade policies that even China knows is a scam and they are the beneficiary. I still will pray for him and his family's safety and well being. As I thought, musch of your dissent with Obama's policies are based on your morals, beliefs and most likely religion. I RESPECT THAT! I understand how the direction of many of Obama's policies appear to be socialist in nature. This is the crux of the difference between liberals and conservatives. I am not accusing you of having done this, but there are those that believe that anything Liberal is equivelent to the Devil and there are liberals that feel the same of conservatives. I think that it is Un-American to discuss these matters in the manner that some people take them to. I will NEVER convince you that abortion is not murder. That is your conviction and belief...You will say it is a fact. Understood. You will NEVER understand that I believe it is not my governments job to decide this issue for women. We should not hate each other for it. I believe that it is the job of the government to step in when necessary to help those less fortunate...and by the look of things right now, there will be many people who find themselves in that category....(there but for the grace of God, go I!) Our fundamental differences are those of belief and conviction. I respect yours and thank you for explaining them. All too often in this forum, we hear buzz words and degrading comments and sometimes even lies.... Lies are evil, no matter what mouth they come out of... Some were saying over and over.."Barack Hussain Obama" .....some even called him "Osama Barack bin Laden Obama" They degraded their argument to the gutter. I find this Racist and frankly UN-AMERICAN. ....Just as UN-AMERICAN as calling President Bush HITLER! If we are going to succeed as a nation, we must put down the ugly words and deal in fact...not anger and hate. Thank You for your fair and clear explanation of your position! I do pray for this President's success...Why would I not? An end to a war we were all duped into beliving was necessary... An end to an economic crisis that has the entire world in a down spiral... I hope and pray he is succesful...if he is we all are. Jeff, thank you again for so clearly stating your position. Please understand that it is not my position, but I respect you for having one. Perhaps we can keep this thread going in the spirit that it has begun. It may surprise you that I was not in favor of invading Iraq either. Iran has always been our enemy and Iraq was a huge distraction. The whole liberal and conservative thing has been very distorted in recent years. A liberal in the 60's , would appear conservative , by today's standards. This thread can be an ongoing discussion , in a civil, way of the policies of the current Admin. Jeff

So has Tommy, from what I've seen. It seems as if civility and common courtesy are forgotten by many when they post online (I am guilty of this as much as the next guy). However, those of us who remember Co-op remember that MOST people got along. There were those who bullied (thugs, over-reaching tenant patrol, perhaps a security guard or two, etc) but MOST people just loved living there and got along very well. We were blessed to have been the pioneers in such a new community where so many came together. Now, after decades of "life", we can become jaded and forget "where we came from". The community of Co-op was inclusive, no one can deny that. We weren't allowed to be biased, racist, prejudiced or bitter, since you needed "everyone" to field a pick-up game of basketball, tag, ringolevio or baseball. That's why I think that regularly scheduled "smokers" are a great idea. LOL Thank you Tommy and Jeff for maintaining civility and common courtesy here.
