Wow! Actual Christmas Trees? All over the country the mention of Christ or Christmas is becoming taboo! Target chased the Salvation Army bell ringers, etc....
Good to see it's not lost in Co-op City at least. |

Right on Cowboy!
We, here in South Florida, have changed the mind of a few stores by reminding them just where their revenue comes from. Under the guise of not offending people, they have offended many. As any business owner will tell you, it's awful expensive to offend your customers. (Oh, except in NYC candy stores, where the counterman will bark... "Whatta need? Get what cha need and get out" Only in New York will that stuff be tolerated) |

I for one, am sick of ONE individual DICTATING what we can or cannot do. It's always the ONE fool who's offended. I don't know about you, but I have never found in the constitution where we are protected from being "OFFENDED."
Funny how my wife told me that there was CHRISTMAS music playing at the local Walmart in North Scottsdale.... We Wish You A Merry Christmas, and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, etc. Retailers know that 84% of Christian types are PISSED off at this bullsh*t business of political correctness. Enough of us voted with our feet that a bunch of them have changed their tune and WILL start using Merry Christmas again. Lowes Home Improvement Centers, after a TON of flame mail and emails, decided to begin selling CHRISTMAS trees again, instead of Holiday Trees.... Nuff said and Merry Christmas to the believers! |

Quote: Yup, it's not there. And even though I don't celebrate Christmas, I'm no more offended, and no more avoid, a store that sells Christmas trees than I am offended by a store that sells hockey equipment, even though I have no interest in hockey. I just walk past, and if someone wishes me a Merry Christmas, or asks me "How about them Bruins?" I take it as it's offered. On the other hand, quite prominently in the Constitution is a ban on the government establishing a religion -- having a state religion -- and an official government Christmas Tree, by whatever name[*], is closer to that than I'd have it. (My city also has an official creche on the Common this time of year -- way over the line in my opinion, but in the scheme of things this small first step is not at the beginning of a slippery slope, and I've got other fish to fry.) [*]Emphasize that: Abraham Lincoln supposedly asked "If you call a tail a leg, how many legs does a horse have?" and the answer is "Four: calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one." If you put up a Christmas tree -- a tradition, though originating in pagan northern Europe, thoroughly part of Christmas -- at least have the honesty to call it a Christmas tree. Calling it something else, doesn't make it anything other than a Christmas tree. And nobody objects to the fact that Christians celebrate Christmas -- the objection is to the notion that non-Christians ought to be celebrating it too. And bringing it back on-board, this time of year I always enjoyed the displays you goyim :-) put up in your windows -- looking out at thousands of windows, especially when the Greenway was covered in snow, was a beautiful sight. |

There's a book out by a guy called John Gibson: The War On Christmas, that covers this topic at length.
This is part of a more insidious agenda to remove ANY vestiges of Christianity from our country. The assault is on, by the few who will wish to dictate for the many. Dave, I agree with you completely: If you don't dig something, just move on. I don't celebrate Hanukkah, but I RESPECT not only the holiday, but those who celebrate it. I loooove to see the lights in the sky from the local synagogue ever year, seeing another light in the sky each night, until all the lights are lit. I'll bet there are people who call the City of Scottsdale to protest. Anyhow, the fact is this IS the Christmas season, so for those who observe, Merry Christmas! |

What else could go wrong? | ||
Quote: Bad to worse. At least (unlike some people here :-( -- sorry to hear of your problems) our health is no worse, though my wife's teeth continue to give her problems. (All that radiation therapy, even after they pulled her teeth and gave her overdentures, she doesn't have a working full set.) But I'm still unemployed. Came close with some good companies, but not close enough. I've got another 8 weeks of unemployment insurance, and then I'm really screwed financially. The kids have been fighting among themselves (lots of stress around here, and they pick it up, even if they don't understand it -- much goes back to our involuntary redistricting to the shiny new school) and the school nurse noticed that my daughter came in bruised twice in three weeks, from (un)lucky blows landed by my older son, and after talking to me and what I thought was an open dialog, she filed a report of suspected child abuse or neglect. So now we are involuntary patrons of our state's Division of Social Services, and strangers are demanding entry into our home assessing us, and generally finding us wanting, although I still don't know what it is that we did that we shouldn't have done, or didn't do that we should have done. (There were 72 hours from the first call from DSS until the home visit -- it's amazing how quickly you can clean up a house that was so messy you wouldn't want family to visit in that time, when the custody and well-being of your children are at stake, if you drop everything, including job searches, enlist all able-bodied family members, and start brutally throwing away everything except about half of what is obviously either immediately valuable or irreplacable.) DSS is still visiting, and we're still home-improving, although we're now down to things we wouldn't be ashamed of, painting walls that didn't absolutely need it, replacing ugly fixtures and window treatments where we hadn't bothered, and so forth. The big decision now is whether to have a dining room, or have a not-quite-big-enough eat-in-kitchen and a formal living room. But among the home-improvements, we ripped up the yellow wall-to-wall carpet that the former owner had had -- OK color for an old lady, but not for a family with young kids -- and found that as we hoped, there was hardwood floor underneath it. There are still going to be months of sorting out all the odd clothing that was stuffed in contractor bags and thrown in the basement, and months, once I'm re-employed, replacing furniture and major appliances. |
